ugly move to keep the I7-970 price tag up by selling "same sh1t" on I7-980 for 200 more, heh. Yet again we will see over priced crap since AMD has nothing to show for AMD's only meal ticket for any high end user is the Interlagos and that is just not gonna happen.

Well done! You totally misread what I said, and then 'corrected' me by saying exactly the same as I had. I know the total line-up changes, I was using the 4850 / 5850 as an EXAMPLE of a newer card replacing the function of an older one. I fail to see how intel's strategy is any different to this. Could you please explain?

Wow this is so simple its not even funny... anymore. They remove these chips to make room for new ones and/or low demand, as examples. and AMD didn't replace the 4850 with the 5850, they replaced the whole damn line. very very very different.

Intel could paper-launch it during December 2011 but ship it only in 2012. Just an idea, not that it's something set in stone. It's logic, from what I see, one is very expencive and has no point if it's not the top-tier. The others are duals and quads, granted at low 18W TDP, but work at only 1GHz or a bit more... not exactly what anyone would buy for the $200 or $250 that one of them costs.

This happens all the time in the graphics card industry. A graphics card that's a year old is in need of a replacement (ie, 4850 -> 5850), when it comes to the latest line-up. It doesn't mean that the older ones suddenly become useless, it's just that if you're buying a new PC then there's a better alternative available to you instead. Just saying this because fudzilla seems to think that it's terrible that Intel's doing this.

"By the end of 1H 2012 Intel will already have released the LGA2011 desktop, to replace the LGA1366." I thought Fudzilla said LGA 2011 was delayed until 2012? Ah well be cool if they get it out before the end of the year, closer to Bulldozer's launch, some competition ..
