Llano is based on the Stars Cores, something which AMD has had for years now. Once the Bulldozer Architecture comes alive it should be fierce competition. Remember if my memory serves me well, Bulldozer’s been designed for Intel’s next gen and some. Nehalem and Sandy Bridge has nothing to do with Bulldozer in terms of performance and price competition. It’s Ivy that’s going to have a tough time keeping up IMO... As for NVIDIA, we hope they stick to what they are good at, Discrete Super Charged Graphics for gaming and enterprise though they will have a very hard time competing with CPU/GPU processors in one. What I suggest NVIDIA do is gobble up VIA or something which has a CPU design along with many patents...

Looks like this will phase out ION plaforms too. What will be left for Nvidia is mainstream and enthusiast level which is not as profitable as entry level, or not even mainstream if Fusion is there. Its like Ferrari and Toyota, Ferrari maybe faster but Toyota is more cheaper, fuel efficient and practical more ppl look for that so they get more money than Ferrari.

In the high end, probably not when Ivy comes, depending on how high the high end needs to be. What is interesting is the fact that people, now, have a lot more news and reviews at hand as they had in the past, so they won't have to base their purchase decisions based on the top parts, which got always reviewed first sometimes nothing followed. It was strange to see all those i7 Nehalem benchmarks that flattened Phenoms left and right to sway most people to go for intel, even if all they got were i5's or lower, which weren't so great. Let's hope we will see proper reviews which take price into account, and not just Hz or top of the line. No one benefits from that.

Bulldozer is the big question mark. Brazos took care of Atom, apart from niche markets (i.e. 3W TDP parts), Llano offers good value in the mainstream and entry level, but I'm not sure AMD will be able to compete in the high end. Still, they're much better off than just a couple of years ago.
