AFAIK AMD will keep fPGA for the desktop/client parts. This keeps overall costs down for the motherboard manufacturers. I personally hope for a comparable LGA socket to G34 so we can maybe build some enthusiast class workstations/servers, but it's just a wish of mine so no loss if it doesn't happen.

the FMx will probably be backward compatible with fm1 n if this is when AMx will meet its end, so be it. it will be a good death. she has lived a long life already. honestly i did expect BD to fall into am3 anyway.

wasnt there talk of amd having to go to land grid array to support all the features of next gen bulldozer? so it could be something like a scaled down G34, whick yes would end this series of backward compatibility

Most likely but there's nothing to say there wont be any backward compatability, it's probably just a universal socket for future AMD fusion and bulldozer CPUs to work in just to save costs of manufacturing separate AMD boards for each family, you can probably still use old AM3+ or FM1 socket chips inside

Looks like the AM3+ Socket is the end of the backward compatibility road. Even the non-Fusion Corona is moving to the FMx Socket.
