No, you are confusing things. Not all LCD tech has horrible contrast and viewing angles. The problem is that the most popular (because it is much cheaper) tech is TN monitors, which generally suck on the terms you mentioned, unless you look at the straight-on. A good IPS panel (or almost any other, when compared to TN) will deliver but will cost a pretty penny. What we need is somehow for IPS or an equivalent tech to become affordable.

Sure, why don't we all go back to newspapers and notepads? No hardware or electrical power needed! :p Seriously though, when a post like this appears now and then it annoys the hell out of me. Its the same as the story from the Patents guys saying in the 1800s (or 1900s?) that everything that was going to be invented had already been. I saved like crazy for a long while, bought one of the Dell 27" 2560x1440, and let me tell you I won't go back.

Of course, all things being equal, higher DPI is better. What I'm saying is DPI is not a big deal since most PC screens have horrible contrast and viewing angles. Screen manufacturers should focus on those things, but instead they try to boast high resolutions because consumers like big numbers. It's one of the reasons the pentium four sold so well, it had really high clockspeeds, but it was still slow.

@FlOw I don't mean 1920x1200 is blurry, it's quite readable. And, I do value the other things you mention. I just meant that higher resolution would be better. :-)

If 1920x1200@24 inches looks blurry to you, you need to get your eyes checked. for screens that size, things like contrast ratio, color accuracy, response time, and brightness/color consistency are more important then a DPI over 1000.

The biggest difference btwn a film photograph and a digital photograph is info density. Decent quality film pictures have 'pixels' the size of molecules - vastly smaller than the pixels in a, say, .25 dot pitch monitor. So if I could have my preferred monitor size (24" 16x10) displaying 19200x12000 then I'd be a happy guy and my on screen stuff would be 10 times sharper. LCDs have (almost) always scaled number of pixels to screen size: per inch resolution has not increased. That is BS IMHO.
