So when a network adapter uses pcie(as its printed on the box outside) we mean pcie x1 but when a sata controller for example have written pcie on the box it might not be x1 and it might be a pcie x4?(there will use a x16 slot as x4 slot is more rare on mobo's). So excuse me but I don't get the 'generally' of yours P.S. It not difficult when someone is writing an article to just say, hey its pcie x1, otherwise he could write this mobo has 6 pcie slots & assume that we will search ourselves to find what pcie slots that particular chipset has :P

The gpu's must also implement the PCIe 3.0 bus, which might come in the next wave of graphics cards or not. Another no real reason to hold off.

even at 4x pci-e 2.0 with a modern gpu you only loss a few % of performance. with 16x slots available there is no real reason to hold off because of pci-e 3.0.

Generally, if the term "PCIe" is used it denotes PCIe x1. Graphics slots will be distinguished by slot length (PCIe x16 -at x16/x8/x4 electrical) or as an open-ended slot (PCIe x4)

"The 990FXA-GD80..It features four DDR3 memory slots, four PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, *two PCIe 2.0 slots* and a lone PCI slot" "the 990FXA-GD65..two PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, *three PCIe 2.0 slots* and two PCI slots." So two pcie 2.0 slots for the first and three pcie 2.0 slots for the second but what? x1? x16? x4?
