22nm will only get Intel so far. They need to accept that x86 can not do everything everywhere! It might be easier to write for x86 but at the end of the day if CUDA is significantly faster than developers will just spend a little longer writing the program and have it must faster. Intel needs to release this soon and give them away with their high-end CPUs as they don't have QuickSync so you will have a $1000 CPU getting its ass handed to it by a $150 when transcoding and encoding!

Is this the Intel GPU which started with big noise and went virtually silent before its expected release? It does not need to beat ATI and Nvidia at start but why Intel's wants to beat them at first release? Now they are two steps behind and going farther.

Did they actually say they are releasing their 22nm MIC soon? From what I've read they just releasing 100 more of their existing Knights Ferry MIC to developers. From memory Knights Ferry was on par with the GTX 280 series.
