It's not about the adoption rate, He made a poit whit Physx and i disaprowed it. Both companies haw technology whitch speaks for either one and the adoption in another story. Someone who spands 600-800$€ on a gpaphic card is wery likely to spend some more on an extra LCD or more. We talk about the High end here not the mid range. ;-)

I do not agree. CUDA will become less commonly used but will not disappear just because of OpenCL. CUDA *will* lose mind share in the way that C did against C++/Python/others for general programming. :-) By way of analogy: OpenMP has not made POSIX threads obsolete because sometimes you really do need all the flexibility of POSIX threads to get the last 5% or 10% out of your CPU. I think CUDA offers a degree of nitty gritty control that OpenCL cannot offer. So CUDA will always have a place - where people care about that last 5% or 10%.

@Nemtrac "Oh can NV drive six monitors whit one card?" Well no AFAIK NV cannot do that. How many people do you think will be inconvenienced by this limitation? Very very very few I'll bet.

you are completely wrong. AMD has a long, long history of supporting open standards. close to metal was ATI's gig, not AMD's. AMD was one of the first to offer openCL drivers for most of their hardware, and included it as standerd in their drivers. CUDA will disappear. there is no doubt about it. once development tools catch up, there is no reason what so ever to choice cuda over openCL, and every reason not too.

AMD simply took up openCl because there own venture in to GPU computing failed. Any one remember Close to the Metal. Or fire stream. AMD gave up the on gpu computing and just started supporting openCL. Developed buy Apple, IBM, Intel, And Nvidia. Amd has nothing to offer GPU computing other them hardware. When it comes down to it CUTA is no gimmick. It's being used in games and in since labs. weather centers. and super computers.

the open standard openCL and they have developed GPU power physics engine, bullet. and odds are they wont have to pay developers to use it, unlike nvidia. physx has always been a gimmick, a propitiatory blimp in gaming history. openCL based physics on the other hand has the potential to actually get market wide adoption and have a real impact on pc gaming.
