Embrace the "start menu" in all it's Win/Mac OS 10/KDE/Gnome/LXDE/XFCE forms. It is better and more flexible than MeeGo/Maemo "here is the single icon you may choose with which to invoke your one single and only application for a given activity". And it sucks up fewer pixels on the screen. A Linux distro targetted at light weight machines is fantastic: lowering resource requirements does not require making the UI stupid and inflexible. If KDE/Gnome/LXDE/XFCE are too heavy, then consider straight up Openbox and variants... those are very light indeed on resources.

Meh. Sticking a MeeGo/Maemo smartphone-style user interface on a netbook or low end notebook is a stupid idea. Just as stupid an idea as is Win7 Starter edition. Intel still thinks it can control what the specs of a netbook - form factor and/or price - PC may be. Intel is mistaken. Ontario & Brazos are going to school Intel in humility. My Acer 522 with 4GB RAM upgrade runs Win7 Enterprise nicely, and it runs OpenSuSE 11.3 nicely. Given that, why would I ever ever ever settle for MeeGo/Maemo idiot dashboard user interface?

Nokia should continue on MeeGO while venturing into Windows Mobile, just like Samsung didn't abandon Bada while focus on Android. Dropping Meego altogether is 'irresponsible' (pls consider existing users).
