+1 Sometimes they even lose money on thsese just to have a bigger client base. The ETF is mandatory, since the carrier pays apple the full phone price, only to split it into monthly payments. I don't see any rapage here. As Kakkoii said, they actually do some good.

I was referring more to the long contracts, high ETFs, and other such lovely features that come with buying a phone these days. It wasn't very clear on my part.

It's not the carriers doing. That is the price the manufacturers have set. Whether you buy it from the carrier or a wholesale no contract phone seller. The carriers are actually doing something good for once by providing the phones at a much more affordable price merely by signing a contract saying you'll stay with them for a few years. And the Droid X was $570 retail when it came out. Pretty much all phone manufacturers are guilty of ridiculously overpricing their phones. But Apple is the worst with it. Especially after you see the price breakdown of their parts.

Carriers raping their customers really isn't Apple's fault. I had to sign a contract to get my Droid X, otherwise it would have been $600. That's in the same range as an iPhone 4 here in the States.

It's $50 on a 2-year contract with AT&T. A new one without a contract will run you between $350 and $450 on Ebay. And in Canada where you can buy it without a contract, Apple sells it for $550. The iPhone 4 costs $660 for the cheapest version which is the 16GB. And a whole [censored]ing $120 more for the 32GB version, making it $780. It's ridiculous.

Sorry, but letting OEMs [censored] with your UI is a bad idea. Does Microsoft let Dell mess with their UI? Of course they don't. Google shouldn't let Motorola or HTC mess with theirs. The best implementations of Android 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 are on Google's own phones. Why? Because they don't have a layer of questionable UI 'enhancements' spread over vanilla Android.

No, it is not. What people refer to is identity. You're right, iOS doesn't have to change because the iphone is made by apple only. When we talk about other manufacturers, things differ in that each want their own visual identity so each want a customizable OS like Android. Here's where apple has it easy, while Android might not, but nevermind that, Google will get there and the manufacturers will get what they want, VISUAL F'ING IDENTITY.

Sorry to be blunt, but that's idiotic. The iOS interface doesn't have to change very much, it's very, very good. It's like OSX, very easy for an idiot to use but very functional for an advanced user. webOS should also be noted for how well thought out and functional it is. Android, on the other hand, is a cluster [censored]. Google is going to have to do a lot of work to bring it up to the functionality level of iOS. 2.1/2.2/2.3 definitely haven't gotten it there. Perhaps the next phone specific OS will do it, perhaps not.

I think Apple gave up on innovation. There has not much been change since iphone 1 interface. It's the developer that does the hard work. Shame on Apple!
