The 3870x2 was as fast as a 8800 ultra and slower then the 9800 GX2. The GTX 295 was faster then the 4870x2. And we have seen a dual Fermi card http://img.hexus.net/v2/pmason/nvidia/gtx595/pcb-3.jpg

yes, I do realize this as I was the one building the first functional scaling at 10.5a for QuadFireX setups unofficially. "pixie dust and black magic." well it wasn't that hard to do 1 single card benchmarks at the time although profiling on those days were so screwed up that still did out come uber failure.

I wonder how they made the reviews after the NDA was lifted, i guess they used pixie dust and black magic. Maybe you meantto say that they issued an official driver only 4 months after release, but you do realize it worked with unofficial ones as well....

I wonder did they also count the 1 Year before this card gets supported by software ??? Last I checked HD5850 it's barely working now and now is 2011 beside last HD5970 when people actually bought AMD hardware it took full 4 months before it even displayed an picture.

Pitty how green gobil fans dont get that Ati HD 3870x2 was single pcb, while green goblin needed much time 4 they GTX 295 to become single PCB, the truth is that we saw picture of AMDs card... And the truth is that 2xGTX 580 cores are little possible to work on sigle PCB...2x GTX 560 well maybe but will that be powerfull to take on HD 6990 and if they manage to do it on how high it will be clocked? Truth is AMD have HD 3870x2 have 4870x2 and have 5970x2 , we havent saw dual Fermi yet...maybe cuz we wont...

seriously, i had ATI for years.... but now i got me an GTX 570 BEAST stock watercooled for ONLY 473€!! I was and still am ATI fan, but i have to say, that the card scales very well, imho better than a 6970. This card is even sometimes faster than a stock 580. http://www.fudzilla.com/reviews/item/21613-point-of-view-/-tgt-gtx-570-beast-first-look and in general the Tesselation side of the cards NIVIDIA is much better ( dunno how antilles will do atm :D) its crisp, clear picture, and i totally can justivy for myself buying this card instead of an ATI.... LETS SEE WHAT ATI DOES end of this yer, bringing the new Series and NEW CHIP!! reetz CrazzyHempers

Not quite, two 6850 in CFX surpass a 580 by 20%. And those are 6850's. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/Radeon_HD_6950_CrossFire/21.html And the same thing cannot be said abut two 560 in SLI: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_560_Ti_SLI/23.html Which kinda proves SLI isn't scaling as well. Or even better: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/3741/amd_radeon_hd_6970_2gb_video_card_in_crossfire/index17.html

Well..considering two less-powerful HD6970's come close to a GTX580, and they're still still driver updates. To be honest I just can't wait for the theoretical pyramid-pricing. Top goes down, top-mid moves down, mid moves down, it all crumbles and who reaps the reward? Me, my computer, and my wallet 8)
