Think of it this way.... if you could buy a 500HP Honda Civic that has the same MPG as the 140HP model - which one would you buy - cost being comparable? (perhaps the 500HP having a $1-2K premium) to take the analogy further... the 500HP has a lot more standard features than the 140HP model (USB, MicroSD, HDMI, etc) Smartphones are the future. Intel will grab smartphone apps processor market share by 2013. there is room for competition... and if I am an handset OEM who is competing with Apple.... I need to differentiate my products somehow in order to compete

Nice try intel marketeer, but once again, ARM has this market well covered. Intel needs 32nm chips to equal 40nm ARM processors when it comes to power consumption. That tells you that the architecture is not design for mobility in the first place. ;-)

The 32nm single-chip MEDFIELD platform is the Smartphone platform by Intel. If you believe the HW bug sites - Medfield is in late stages of Qualification & in the subscriber certification cycle, BELOW is the spec list: - Intel 1.6 GHz Medfield CPU, - 1 GB RAM LPDDR2 - 200 MHz GPU with 512 MB of RAM - 480 x 854 pixel resolution screen - Broadcom BCM4751 GPS chip, NPX Semiconductor PN544 NFC Controller, - Infineon XMM 6260 3G modem (21 Mbps HSPA+ capable). Now formally an INTEL chip. Texas Instruments WiLink 6.0 WL1271 chip (802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth). - HDMI out, USB port & MicroSD The above is a high-end netbook / low-end notebook like HW specs. if you port Android honeycomb to it....and have decent TDP....then you have a true iPHONE killer!

An x86 phone? I will finally have a reason to upgrade from a $30 prepaid phone lol This could make the whole Windows on ARM a pointless venture. Much as NT's support for Alpha/Power/MIPS/IA64 was pointless. Wouldn't it be funny if Apple was the only one to keep using ARM in phones? It would be similar to the way they were the only ones to keep using PowerPC chips in desktops. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Pretty cool. A Fusion phone would be pretty cool, but it probably will take a while before AMD shifts to 22nm. Although to be honest, having too much horsepower doesn't mean a lot: nobody is going to want to run "serious" games on a 4" screen. Battery life, better displays and better software is more important.
