I never got their idea either but then again i dont get why the spend money and time on DRM like that anyway. I dont think the people there are stupid enough to think that it will work.Steam at least bind people and previews them the store, so a possible chance that the customers buy something there but Ubi managed to make the usual 100% customers think about buying and maybe turned them into pirates. Dumb is a nice word for that.

Yeah, ones like those are really costly. Also, I just don't understand Ubi with there's. I mean... Why? they even made a way to get rid of the DRM with a patch. It's just... dumb...

Nah, Steam would be close to perfect if you could decide to install it or not. Forced software ? No thanks. (Kinda like Xfire) Btw, some DRM are pretty costly, SuckuRom license is around 1mio if i remember right and you can estimate the cost of Ubis if they need a serverfarm 24/7 to keep it up.

Meh. I think you're overestimating the cost of DRM, especially common ones like Steam. Removing DRM wouldn't affect prices at all. I should also mention that I think there is a way to do DRM right; publishers just can't seem to find it. The only one that comes even close to right is Steam (which leaves me to wonder why some Steam games have other DRMs on top of the Steam one, since people are less likely to try to bypass Steam). I know that you're going to say that it's just as bad or even one of the worst, but I disagree becauseyou get something in return that actually is enough of a benefit that it partially makes up for being stuck with the game you buy forever. If Valve could offer a Steam trade-in service and a rental service, it'd be perfect.

Kinda hard to make demos when games are so short, it would reduce piracy maybe but not increase sales a lot. Imagine people playing the GTA 4 demo buying it after they see that it doesnt run on their AMD card/pc xD As for DRM, oh yes and by doing that they would save a lot money that could be used...to make the price lower :D

Well, the thing is that, while you have a point, lowering prices would hurt more than it would help. If anything, playable demos and, funny enough, removing DRM would reduce piracy FAR more than any sort of logical pricing structure could.

Dont get me wrong, they still make a lot profit with current model but for a industry that complains so much, its weird not to try other models besides even crazier, annoying and expensive DRM that wont work. PS: wth i cant edit my comment

Okay, maybe I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was that there needs to be a balance between sales and profit to decide a price. (Yes, I'm aware that competition also plays a huge role, but that's actually why game prices are usually consistent on a single platform.) The price has to be high enough that a good profit (or the smallest possible loss) is made while also selling as much as possible. For consoles and PC, publishers feel that $50-60 is the sweet spot, while for handhelds it's $30-40. This is for when a game is new, of course. When sales go down, the balance is lost. That's when price should go down to get sales from the people who felt that the original price was too high. This way, both profit and sales are maximized.

The fact is that the 90% you said, aint a fact but a speculation. As for console games, nothing stops them to increase the prices there too, to fit your business plan. Gotta agree with last part but again, nobody knows the numbers.

You missed the point entirely. Would making the games cheaper increase sales? Yes. But the question here is, by how much? The fact of the matter is that 90% of the people who would buy a popular game at $20 are the same people who would buy it at $40. Taking that into consideration, the loss is greater than the gain. At the same time, we have handhelds that cost as much as consoles now. If the games cost as much as console games too, no one will buy them and they'll go for the bigger, better console games. Now, I know that you're going to argue that it would reduce piracy and increase sales from former pirates, but it won't be enough to make up for the lost profit. It sucks, but that's just how it works.
