No one with half a brain is going to call a country with a market economy 'socialist'. No command economy? It's not really socialist. I don't believe anyone would call a country with a command economy capitalist. The United States is a big country, both geographically and with regards to population. It's a lot harder to govern 300 million people than 30 million. Compare the standard of living in the US to 300 million members of the EU, distributed through it's members. The US would likely be higher. Capitalism is going to create inequity. Why? Because some people are a lot more capable than others. I also never stated that the US was at the top of the HID, I just stated that market economy countries have higher standards of living than command economy countries.

Hmm.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index USA is at the top of the list, right? Oh wait.. No, it's Norway, a country most Americans would label as Socialist. I'm curious as to how the US rose so quickly in the list over the past two years though, makes me suspicious of the kind of stats they may be providing to the UNDP. The second list that calculates inequality seems to correct that :P

Yeah buddy, I didn't invent it. I heard it at a lecture and thought it was really good. I'd rather people not equate socialism with totalitarianism , because that wouldn't be correct. Hence, China is Market-Stalinist. All you've proved is that you can look something up on wikipedia. Good for you. You don't think capitalism has brought anything to average people? Compare the lives of a US citizen in the 1980s to one who lived in the Soviet Union during the same time frame. Pretty much every high ranking country on the HDI is a market economy. The facts speak for themselves.

And Micky... the problem of obseseness is due to population misinformation by the very companies that you thank for your burgers and coke, the perks. It's not because they eat healthy and plenty, but because they need to eat fast and sadly also unhealthy. How about the one-task job mcdonalds created so they could train people fast and also fire them just as fast if they want better working conditions? Or coke and pepsi which dry up fresh-water springs without having to pay a cent, while wasting tons of gas and producing and polluting this planet with tons of plastic, all for which the average joe pays $1.5 / .5L bottle. Yeah... all of this is done for our benefit not for that one group, the billion earners. *sarcasm turnd off for non-idiots*

Micky... ignorance is if some rich kid like you tries to defend an idea that already set many homeless or in debt above their possibilities while the well-connected because of their financial status bark how good it is. The argument that capitalism has brought some "perks" to the average Joe is idiotic at best. The reason for advancement is for the interest of a nation in its common people over other nations. Keep in mind that while rich kids like you have it all, half of world's population don't have even the basic things. FURB! Naterm, keep your badge for inventing terms, China is a socials market... not need to lie about it, and stalinism, oh man, that was considered a failure by the west and genocide by Ukrainians.

The United States became the only place in history where the "impoverish" could be preponderantly obese. In the last 50 years, the automobile has become available to masses living with minimum wage incomes. The differentiation between "rich" & "poor" nor qualified by one group driving a BMW, and another an 89 Camry. Air conditioning. Refrigerators. Developments of human ingenuity, made by individuals pursuing their self-interest & making them filthy rich, whilst OVERWHELMINGLY benefiting society. Take your insipid evaluations of Capitalism and [censored] off.

The nonsensical dictum that capitalism only works by one group exploiting another demonstrates a profound ignorance of economics. What sect has the industrial revolution benefit the most? Is it the wealthy classes? Certain perks that could, at most points throughout human history, only be enjoyed by the aristocracy (bathing, running water, transportation) have been extended to the so called lower classes by virtue of the free market.

Because those products we buy are made in FSU? There aren't too many real Communist countries left. North Korea is one of the few I can think of. I'll give you an idiot badge for thinking China is Communist (I fully know what Communism is, by the way). China runs on something called Market- Stalinism. Think of a semi-capitalist economy with a totalitarian government. The axiom used to be that free markets needed free people. China has proven that utterly false. They're quasi capitalist and totalitarian. Actually, I'd say capitalism works better without free people. If the Soviets had stumbled across Market-Stalinism in the 1970s, the US very likely could have ended up loosing the Cold War. But they didn't.
