Tegra-hype to fade? It's not hype, buddy. That thing is in a lot of soon to be shipping products. In fact, I think we've seen more real products using Tegra 2 than we have with Brazos.

I could see Brazos being used in a tablet that is burdened with the task of running Windows 7. That's about it. I don't think the market particularly wants tablets like that. Windows 7 is a desktop operating system, it's not designed for tablet usage and isn't very good for that scenario. I don't see Brazos being used in Android/iOS/webOS/WP7 style tablets, it's just too power hungry. So what if it can idle at 1W? 1W is a lot of power in these devices. Maybe if it had a maximum TDP of 1-3W it would be worth the trade, not at 9-18W. People don't want a tablet with an hour of battery life.

@Naterm, Brazos will be used in tables... just wait for the Tegra hype to fade, a week or two. I see your point but as you know, the x86 chips aren't fixed at 9W for every task including idling. Ontirio can, if we are to trust slides, achieve 1W at idle and lower than 9W when doing video playback. While it won't manage to do 10-12 hours considering it can do much more than just sit or do payback, I think it's a fair trade. The argument about video being the most intensive task a Tegra 2 will do is wrong. Tegra 2 is a CPU as well... it will do OS and application processing also.

The point being argued was that Brazos should be used in tablets. I pointed out why this is wrong. Brazos is much too power hungry for a device that is expected to be both small and have at least 10-12 hours of battery life. Brazos isn't for that, it's the wrong chip. No shit. Tegra 2 does 1080p decode inside of 200mW, considering that's one of the most power hungry tasks it's ever likely to do, it's a pretty good indicator of the power draw on the chip. I don't know the level of compliance, but it's probably level 4 (25mbps). As far as I have seen, it actually doesn't have a specified, firm, TDP. Not a published one anyway. Anything about power gating and such in Brazos applies just the same to Tegra 2.

No... Tegra is a 500 mWh chip and that is not a tested number, it's from nvidia's PR department, which most people don't trust but for the sake of the argument, lets take their word for it. And no, you can't compare a pea with a melon. Brazos might be hungrier but it can outperform anything you throw at it in comparison with Tegra, while Tegra has specific graphical functions in it it's only best suited certain scenarios, not general usage. Also Bobcat has a variable TDP, 9W is when the core is fully loaded.

Nvidia is more and more becoming similar to Intel. Going for the fastest, bestest and then let things trickle down. Seems to work, for some weird reason. Maybe we should call Nvidia the Intel of graphics. Or maybe Nvintel. :P

Not with two big ol' hot x86 cores in it. What's the TDP on Brazos? Probably 9-18W? Tegra 2 has a 150mW-250mW TDP. Brazos is way too big and way too power hungry to be powering highly portable Android tablets.
