AndreiD, that is more of an SQLite problem than Firefox's... sometimes thing don't go smoothly in open source but they do have fixes for that. Get out the bookmarks organizer, open your history section and delete as much of your history as you don't need. Do the same for Cookies. Close Firefox and open places.sqlite with sqlite3.exe from SQLite's home page. Execute the command vacuum; and then close the app, restart Firefox and you'll get your speed back. The problem is that removing any number of entries from the database keeps the structure size and it gets slower with increased size, but once vacuum is execute the database gets smaller and thus faster when queries are executed. However, it's good that the db is open and portable, unlike Opera's.

I've been using Firefox for years and recently switched to google Chrome because the non-beta version of Firefox is so damn slow. Don't believe me? Install a couple of add-ons and get to about 150 bookmarks. The browser won't just be slow, it will be INCREDIBLY slow. Tried the beta, but even though most of it's features are touted as being clever, I see no use for them. It's just something like (let's add more stuff than the competition, maybe something will work). And yes, even the Beta is slow with all of my bookmarks and passwords in it. Opera is okay, but the way it handles bookmarks & the bookmark bar just annoys me, so tried that and didn't like it.

I'm sorry, but Opera blows. I didn't realize anyone actually used it. I've tried using every major browser out there (Safari, IE, Chrome) and I still find myself going back to Firefox. That said, 4.0b8 still feels fairly slow, at least compared to Chrome. Too bad the only good thing about Chrome is that it is fast.

Been using Firefox4 since beta1. It finally got fast at beta7 when they stuck the new javascript engine in. Now it is about polishing and stabilizing the code. It's stupid how Mozilla predicted that the final version of Firefox4 would be out by now. I took one look at their development schedule months ago and laughed at it. They still have two more betas and some release candidates before final. I tried Opera 11 for a couple weeks and while the browser itself is good the NotScripts and AdBlock extensions don't work anywhere near as well. Those two things are showstoppers for me so I went back to Firefox.

Again playing catch up with Opera :). And then Opera 11 will again be a whole class above every other browser out there.
