What you call "whistleblowing" and "illegal", George Washington called one of the founding premises of the US society - simple truth. How low have we dropped to ignore the essence putting emphasis on form and manner of utterance. G. Washington said:"Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains taken to bring it to light." I realize innocents might be hurt, but let's not pretend that innocents haven't been hurt in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Iraq, etc, and mind you - for far less than this. Besides, to use the US government's legal terms, if they are innocent - they have nothing to fear. I have and will continue to uphold a great saying by this man, despite him not being my president - "If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter"

...continued I just think America should spend a lot less money on wars and a lot more making America strong and proud again through: science, health care, infrastructure, crime, environment, etc. The amount spent on the: Korean War, Vietnamese War, Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan War and Iraq War is unbelievable. Just think how great America could be if they spent that on fighting crime in their own country, putting a base on the moon, developing clean fusion power generation, a health care system so everyone has access to, high speed rail network, etc.

@FoxMontage Agreed its off topic but can you honestly say you fully support the way the US government runs internal and foreign affairs? You might say its not for us to say but it is, they are there to serve us not rule us. Its not like America is a utopia and everyone should aim to be just like them. The US has the worst crime, gun crime, murder rate of the developed world. Look at how poorly they handled Katrina, look at the massive budget cuts to NASA, you don't even have health care for everyone. continued...

America's can petrified of China because there isn't a news day that goes by then a scare story isn't told to the American people. And sadly the average American citizen has no idea about anything outside their own country to be able to make an informed decision. Most America's don't own a passport and G.W. Bush had never left the US until he became the president aged 54! The leader of your country making decision for the rest of the world and he'd never even been abroad! But how many wars has China started lately? None! they are concetrating of ecconemy, science, space. This is where America will come undone, they are investing in the wrong things and falling behind the rest of the world.

@FoxMontage / Fing Fang Foom Ever thought that maybe if America conducted itself better then it wouldn't have so many enemies around the world? Assange doesn't want to hurt anyone he just wants the world to know what their goverments are doing. I don't see that as such a bad thing. No, not every last event and detail should be in the public domain but i think America has made some verybad decisions over the last few decades and this seems like the first step in the right direction.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Everybody keeps on harping on about freedom of speech and government transparency, something I find ridiculous. Should we force our government to release every detail of every military plan and operation, just so we can feel like they're not hiding anything? Great idea. Let's also release dates for when we're going to launch the next ambush on some Iraqi insurgents.

Don't confuse the issue with facts Dark. The typical poster here will hide behind "freedom of speech" to justify bashing the US because it's fashionable, so most of these smug, self-entitled kids can pat themselves on their backs for standing up to authority. But heck, what's a few lives lost?
