Interesting comments. I've only ever been worried about OpenGL support and GPGPU support on Linux. AMD OpenGL is good, and GPGPU is... well... for ass'y programmers lol. But reading some comments in this thread and a couple of others it seems that AMD Linux support for accelerated video/movie playback is lacking? Have I understood the problem? Thanks in advance.

i have too agree with you.AMD driver is just not good at linux KDE.but have you tried modifying fglrx or conf? :-) another environment like GNOME,LXDE or XFCE and even Xorg work for me just fine. mine only, linux is intended for business ,as for workstation or BSD for mission critical servers. All configured with simple CLI.and if i want full multimedia experience,i'll go with gate's OS

Lol, hmmm looks like Adobe brought out hardware acceleration on flash. Guess what, doesn't work on AMD. Why? Because AMD again won't provide the exposure to their hw decoding in linux. Again, if you want to build a HTPC and use linux for the OS, go anything but AMD, could be intel or nvidia or even S3 since even they have hw video decoding in linux.

Speaking strictly as someone who has not yet looked at the Fusion driver code... If the code is intended to expose the GPGPU parts (if you will) of the on-chip GPU, there is nothing wrong with that. Given the architectural changes from CPU+externalGPU , some kind of driver will be needed just to put pixels on the screen. Nothing wrong with that either. This need not be intended to enable all the specialized video processing circuitry, which I agree does not seem to be enabled to any great degree on Linux.

Don't bother Deanjo, the majority of them don't even know how to install linux. They're just voting because it makes them feel special. It's actually quite cute in a "monkey see monkey do" kinda way.

LMFOA, keep voting down ATI fanbois. Truth hurts doesn't it? Maybe one day when you can take off the blinders you can vote for fact instead of fiction.

What do you expect when you spread factless rumours. You are getting thumbs down because of your incompetent ridiculous claims and accusations. Why not try posting something true for once in your life then you will get thumbs up. Yes I own Intel CPU’s so no fanboy here. My laptop is a Core 2 Duo.
