Yes, that was AMD's 2S/4S/8S server socket. AMD did use it for on high-end platform in a pretty weak attempt to compete with intel's 65nm quad cores. That's hardly 'mainstream' and it certainly didn't last.

People also seem to be so horribly confused on SNB that it's not funny. Sandy Bridge is the name for the whole micro-architecture and processors for different market segments will receive their own code names. Sandy Bridge will use P67, but it will also use Patsburg (successor to Tylersburg) on higher-end platforms. Sandy Bridge will also be in notebooks, 1S servers, 2S servers, and eventually 4S and 8S servers.

Er...no. AMD only has one HT link on single socket processors, two HT links on dual socket, ect. Intel is the same way, one QPI link is to communicate to the chipset and further QPI links are for inter-CPU communication.

The low and mid-range will use LGA-1155 called P67 (and i think H57 plus something called Z58) but none of these are true high-end chips that will replace the X58 that up until now we were calling X68 but Fuad seems to think that this is no longer the case. Just checking what he means by this.

I like to think of Fudzilla as a really fit foreign exchange student, most of what she says doesn't make any sense but you still can't stop looking!! At the end of the day their English is far better than my foreign language skills and I think that could be said for the majority of the English speaking world. The other day they used the phrase ‘more silent’ which made me laugh but we all knew what they meant. Their English might not be perfect but they always manage to communicate what they are talking about.

If a website is going to report on technical news the journalists and reporters really do need to have a solid grasp of the language (English) the site it written in. This is getting beyond pathetic fudz.

Sandy Bridge goes onto P67 chipset. This is just a guess but I think Intel has plans for Light Peak and PCIe 3.0 Seeing how USB 3.0 seems like it is not on Intel's priority list made me think that way. I'd say we have to wait and see for early 2012.

What the hell is X58E and how it it different to X58. Looking at the websites of some of the motherboards you say have this 'new' chip, they list X58 Express chipset which has been out since 1366 was first released. Please check your facts as this story is very confusing. Also it is not news as Intel announced a long time ago that Sandy Bridge would only be used in the mainstream market as a 1156 replacement until at least q4 2011 when 22nm comes in. I.E 1366 CPU's can only be replaced by 22nm Sandy Bridge CPU's becuase of heat I assume. I expect better of Fudzilla
