@The_Wolf88 & jimt Cost per unit is important: ARM based devices are cheaper than MAD or Intel, so better profit margins for manufacturers. As for the code, none of this is a frightfully difficult port. Programmer time to port is cheaper than using hardware that does not really fit the bill. Put it this way: for purchasers it really is all about power consumption for a given level of performance. The price of electricity is not going to go down over the medium term. I used to never turn my machines off... now I only turn them on when I intend to use them.

Well, also, ASUS O!Play is a MIPS chip. And it is just a branding of a whitebox product, the very same box is sold under many labels. Nothing special here. Others are ARM designs. 2D video was solved a decade or more ago. TV is 2D, people!

Zacate is overkill for network attached video/TV players (WDTV, ASUS O!Play, others). Optimized ouput for 2D 1080p from ARM designs (hahahaha Applistas, 720p Apple TV, but go ahead and give your Lord God Jobs your money if you think it qualifies as a dispensation!) - the designs and the chips exist already. AMD's thing is about low BOM 3D/OpenGL/GPGPU/DirectWhatever, not throwing 2D pixels onto a TV screen!

dont read power, read heat as for why they didnt go with amd, im guessing its the whole intel inside thing, most people dont know, dont care or hate amd. intel brand recognition/preference is light years ahead of amd oh and benifit for switching to arm, Google TV can share the same code base as Android so its easier to develop and less fragmentation

Well, if the software is already written in X86, why not use a processor like CeleronCULV or Zacate? Maybe Intel is sending "rebates" to Google's engineers. Using crraaapy Atom simply makes no sense.
