Good points all around. What nVIDIA needs to do is since licensing SLI compatibility to AMD for AMD chipsets would not be feasible (AMD wouldn't be interested in diluting their opportunities for CrossFire setups and multi card sales) nVIDIA should just give it to them with a driver update. They could remove the SLI chipset check for AMD systems, and allow SLI in an unsupported fashion. Any AMD board with dual x8 or x16 should have the bandwidth to do fine. They could have a pop-up in the driver's SLI control panel saying that SLI is capable, but unsupported. That way though they may quit selling high end nForce AMD chipsets, they may be able to sell more GeForce cards. A $140 890GX would do the job.

Just because I don't like Nvidia's hot and heavy GPU's anymore doesn't mean I want to see less competition. I hope Intel gets hammered in the court because if Intel really wanted to give people integrated graphics that didn't suck well, they certainly have the resources to have done it for a long time! They only do things when their competitors are far ahead of them.

that would indeed be a very healthy, welcome choise for both amd and nvidia on the other hands, you might read this as amd cutting its ati division in the fingers because high end gamers now dont HAVE to match onboard gpu stacking ati cards on an amd chipset but they can choose to stack sli on an amd board too.. but either way, i think this is just what intel is doing with its chipsets, amd is just preserving their chipset+crossfi re setup for a stronger market position.. not that they really need it tough.. amd does, but ati doesnt, and ati doesnt gain from such a deal.. thats why they dont do it i think :)

nice fermi flame there, but seriously.. there is a LOT lost.. this means there is basically just 1 solution for intel cpu based mobo's and only one left for amd.. do you think intel and amd would have worked on their chipsets so extensively if nvidida was never a threat to them? now its basically, if you want amd, you have to get an amd mobo, if you want intel, you have to get an intel mobo.. not much options are left now.. im not saying nvidia was very strong with their chipsets, but some healthy competition is better than leaving intel and amd with their monopoly positions on the mobo market
