i think ati has earned some respect since the radeon 3 series, they proved themselves being a reliable company, if they drop the deadline back a few weeks, thats not a big issue, some other companies just push it back for ages.. or in case of dnf, even a decade? i must admit, this will most probably hurt their sales a lot, the release is 13th, wich is hurray ofc.. but by the time i can actually get my hands on one, it will be very, very close to xmas eve, or in january because of high demand and slow stocks at the start of the release.. i wouldnt get your hopes up unless you have preordered this one 3 months ago allready, or have good friends at a retailer :)

I'm guessing it would be difficult for AMD to leak 3Dmark scores with no BIOS and no drivers that are up and running as of yet, it's just an educated guess on my part though. I agree if AMD did in fact know that their 6900 series cards could surpass the GTX 580 it would be in their best interest to release or leak performance figures to hurt Nvidia's sales numbers since AMD will be late to the dinner table. The other reason which I hope isn't true is that perhaps the 6900 series is suffering from a performance bug in AMD's drivers that they are still hard at work.

Could be AMD are protecting their 5000 series card sales by not announcing specs on 6900....they could be playing a wait and see game, obviously 580 is going to damage their sales but how long will the 580's initial availability last? Does anyone know what yields they are getting for chips using all the clusters and at the higher clocks of the 580? Could be we are just seeing stockpiled 580 parts at the moment and availability will decline?...just speculation I know but maybe AMD are just waiting to see how much of a threat 580 is before they release info on the 6900 which would also have a negative affect on their 5000 series sales.

...continued Your point about not releasing performance figures till they are out is not valid in this case, I would love to see Kepler and Maxwell benchmarks too but that would severely hurt nVidia's sales today, as people might hold off buying their GTX580 if they see something better on the horizon. Obviously you wouldn't do something to hurt your own company but AMD releasing their figures now would only hurt nVidia and make AMD more money from the current GTX580 buyers. But again this is only true if the 6970 is better than the 580 whether it’s on outright performance or performance/price. It just worries me that AMD are giving nVidia several weeks lead and not heard or sewn so much as a leaked 3Dmark score!

@Bl0bb3r Sorry, what i meant to say was that only the very rich or very insane buy $500+ graphics cards and i don't believe either of these groups have the sense to wait a month or 2 just in case something might be better. I am just jealous that i can't justify that kind of money! But my point is that its AMD that are going to lose out on potential sales by being late whether the 6970 is truly something special or not. Surely AMD knows this but all i can think is that its not going to beat the 580 so we will leave the public guess as that might get a few sales. ...continued

well yeah currently but i think when we jump to 28 we might just be seeing it, maybe even triple sli/cf cards :D (with triple slot cooling? if ati bought lucid it would defeat the point of having it though i agree they need MUCH better scaling, 6k series was a massive improvement but it could do alot better, same with nv

Yes but the thermal and power considerations would make it impractical where as 4X6850's for instance would not....I was initially really excited about lucidlogix Hydra and their claim of 100% gpu scaling which sadley didn't happen...AMD should buy them, if they could get it working correctly it would really suit their business model of producing smaller more power efficient gpus and using mulitples of them for higher performance.
