500$ , Do you honestly think i will buy the high end cards ? I only buy the mainstream of the 5770 / 6870 . Yes , mainstream . I will go lower then that , for sure . I only needed a x4 955 , and that's fine . what 1000$ ? Tt was more like I only spent 198SGD$ ON IT ! Blackshot is a nice game , good even for lower end Graphics cards , gameplay is good , and graphics are better , AND ! It doesn't even use 30% of my cpu dude . And for the S , i have one , its the one that came with the kinect , it runs very very very silent but hot thanks to the IBM PowerPC Xenon . Not the ATi Xenos Definitely . it's good that the new kinect games come in 1080p REAL reso and are pegged to 60p

I don't think anyone here is defending $500 for a single graphics cards. The vast majority laugh at that price and never buy it but we like to use it as a yard stick of performance to come. And the people that do buy them really don't care that how much they are, they can just buy them. Do you look at someone in their Ferrari from your 25 year old heap of a car and say 'well we can both only go 55mph on the freeway'? No, they can afford a nice car and that’s fine, it doesn't matter that they can't use the power they have, it’s what they want. And there will be times that power can be used. I on the other hand spent about $550 on an entire system, case, psu, ram, quad core and last years highend GPU. It runs everything fine and price was very reasonable.

I give up. FORGET ABOUT DirectX its a DEVELOPER API THING!Who cares! Its only enables PCs to hardware accelerate new graphical techniques. Its not essential. I didn't buy my 295GTX because it could do a certain DirectX version. The new features in cards and DX slowly develop and evolve in games over time. Games take time to develop and it takes time to utilise these new features. They don't just appear instantly in new games. My 295GTX is old now but in terms of graphics quality it easily runs Crysis just about maxed out with all features enabled. Rendering scenes far far exceeding GOW3. The PS3 couldn't get close with that polygon count or 1.5GB+ of textures in VRAM. If a decent port of GOW3 was coded for the PC then you could really see the difference then.

@loadwick Sorry, but I'm a VERY happy person because I have alot going on, and alot to look forward to. :-) You sir, seem sad and frustrated because you now realize that you've been had. You'll keep being had too because what I'm saying is correct! I'm not talking about DX10,10.1, or DX11 "mode" or "effects", I'm talking about full blown games taking advantage of that $500 video card. AMD literally stole their fanboys money with DX10.1. Don't blame this on consoles either. Two of the biggest PC releases in the last 3 yrs were Starcraft 2 and Civilization 5. Both were exclusive, and both were DX9 based games, and both did NOT take advantage of the latest DX11, $500-$1000, gimme your money, cards and chips. Does the PC have the capability? Yep! Is it being realized? Nope!

@Naterm Listen, the Pioneer is an oustanding TV thats made for "movie watching"! The picture seems too dark for my taste, and the TV is overpriced. I thought about a projector, but the higher you go in resolution, the higher the price. The replacement bulbs are also expensive! Hometheater is a very rewarding and VERY, VERY, VERY, expensive hobby costing in the tens of thousnds of dollars! TVs $h!t on PC monitors all day long! Google 4k2k and make sure that you're wearing a diaper. Those TVs will be showing up in a couple of years (supposedly). The "sweet spot" for me is getting the capability without spending the loot. I'm doing more than just watching a movie. I'm watching a movie, storing, recording, streaming, playing, anywhere, anytime, from any TV in the house.

@ laxity When did you buy that 30" Dell monitor, and whats the model#? I know EXACTLY what Direct X is. The point is that there are no games to show for it! I love Nvidia, and they're releasing the best card on the market friday in the GTX 580...at $500! Where are the games to show for it? Where are the games that take full advantage of this powerful card? Where are the games for the last series of DX11 cards? Exactly!! PC gamers who buy this card can only hope to play console ported type games, and it'll cost them $500 to do it! :D Its foolish. The previous best card was released by Nvidia in the GTX480, THAT cost upwards of $500 too. So anyone upgrading just spent over $1000+ tax within 6 months just to play Starcraft or Assassin's Creed! Both games look worse than GOW3!

@ laxity GOW 3 looks ABSOULUTELY STUNNING on my HDTV. Nobody that has seen this game up and running hasn't been floored! Nobody with any sense thinks this game has bad graphics. There are times when you're so obviously outclassed you just have to admit defeat...this is one of those times. The PC has no equal. So, you must have a $h!tty signal going in, so you have a $h!tty picture. The game IS THAT epic, pure and simple! There is nothing like it on PC! You, for some strange reason think that "screen resolution" has everything to do with graphics, it doesn't. These graphics were crafted in the studio! The game has a cinema like quality to it. The fantasic thing about this is that its on 5yr old hardware, and EVERY PS3 WILL HAVE THE SAME GRAPHICS! This can't be done on a PC!

Also most PC gamers don't buy cards just coz its DirectX whatever. DX is just an API to make programmers lives easier. Anything on DX11 could be done in DX9 with the right programming but would just be more difficult to do any may not be hardware assisted. Your getting too caught up in DirectX numbers and features which mean nothing unless you are a developer. Give over. Also you don't need a super insane dream PC to get amazing looking games better than console ones. Low budget Nvidia and ATI cards are more than capable of running most games maxed out at 1080p resolutions and they look far better than console games when you look closely at the textures, antialiasing and draw distance.

The Vizio is still half the definition of my 30" if you work out the pixel ratio. Also you are talking about next gen displays that are not available yet. Also your GOW3 will still be 720p on that TV. Fire up GOW3 on that Vizio display and then Crysis next to it and you'll soon see what I mean. Im looking at 720p raw screen grabs from GOW3 and it has very bland low res texturing and horrendous jaggies. Probably looks ok on your blurry HD TV though as I said before coz you don't see the detail. HD TV's use lower quality screens due to their size to keep the cost down. The image is then stretched over a large area. Monitors use much higher density screens. Why do you think the 30" displays cost way more than a 50" HD TV? No and its not because of sales volume either.

...Continued You were eager to point out that it takes developers several years to get the most out of the hardware in a console, it is no different in PC gaming either. There are plenty of games that can run in DX9/10/10.1 and a few DX11 games with many more coming. Yes, PC games are severely held back by consoles because the vast majority of money to be made in gaming is on consoles so not nearly as much is spent on PC game development, and yet any non-biased comparison of PC vs Console would say there is still a massive difference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WJG14uLA3k
