sorry, but this argument is invalid. The fact that most people dont have higher resolutions than 1080/1200p is not usable here, as the 69x0 series is not a GPU designed to be sold to most people. If you are willing and can pay for such a high end GPU, chances are you already have a multi-display setup or thinking on getting one. Both ATI and NV know this, that is why AMD launched first the high-end-non-halo-GPU Barts before Cayman. Barts can be sold to the masses, Cayman can't, it is not made for that.

I wouldn't normally do this, but I'm going to stick up for fudzilla here. He says in the article that it's pointless for MOST users. As far as I know, MOST users don't have a resolution of 2560 x 1600 or above. Really, they don't.

Blame Standford for not caring about anything else other than nvidia, so yeah, you're stuck. Hope is there for you, if AMD's APUs get a good liftoff, more and more people will approach Computing programming that will use AMD's GPU technology.

All will be considered as speculations until the final product arrives. Leaked benchmarks for the 580 and 6970 if it's true will be taken with a grain of salt until the NDA is lifted and official benchmarks are released...

I have to agree - anyone who can afford three 27s is probably well off to begin with... I used to use a 2 screen setup back when I made a living modeling in Max, but now I'm back to a single screen... However, I still think gaming should be a simple and affordable pastime. I just don't know that many people who are willing to invest in a 3-screen setup with a two dual GPU cards in Cross/SLI. Hell I even know a couple of semi-pro gamers who make quite a bit of cash fragging people and both use single screen setups...

Well I only have a 1920X1200 monitor, I game using vsync enabled and force triple buffering. I've noted that my max vram usage regularly goes over 1GB even at the more meager quality settings that my GTX460 card allows for. I went for a 2GB version of the gtx460 and I'm glad I did, my point being that if I have a need for a 2GB card with a mid range gpu then it will be even more worth while on a higher performance gpu which may utilise higher quality settings and resolutions.

@Mr.Day I totally agree with you, you made my day :) I was 17en once, but I knew how to behave, at least I think I had :). Still this is your opinion and this is what comments are for, so please continue. I am sure that none of these people have either three displays or 30 inch 2560 capable display, so I stand by the fact that 2GB is marketing only. If you have 30 inch display or you play with three display I apologize to these chaps, you might find some use or 2GB of memory. @all who think we don't like ATI. People R520 code name was Fudo, what more can you ask from company in your lifetime :) I am only biased to love technology and competition, as competition drives prices down, and you all benefit from good ATI / Nvidia cards. @ whoever flamed me for using "we". Fudzilla is a team of 15 people who work together in order to serve you the best quality news we can get at publishing times. that should explain the we. Now must write some more stories, again something brand new, again unannounced, again no NDA at our side. Have in mind that only a hand full of people work like this in our branch.

One of the privileges of having/seeing the cards is that you don't have to rely on links to know something :p Ofc, these results need to be taken with a pinch of salt as the 580's drivers are probably a lot close to the final release than that of the 6970. So if AMD can do something until it gets us the press review drivers in the following weeks, maybe the situation changes. This is how it stands now.
