Microsoft is using the 'Tick-Tock' strategy too? LOL By the way, I think the next ver of Windows will be very memory-hungry! Even in Vista, your desktop gadget consumes around 10Mb of memory, EACH! WTF ... I'm running multiple apps on Win 3.11 with 8Mb only back in old days.

The problem with Windows Vista and 7 is supporting backwards compatibility. That very thing alone is what boggs down the OS. For the OS to truly perform, it needs to only support backwards compatibility within several years in the past, enough of the dam legacy support.

I'm one of the odd ones that doesn't get excited by such news as I find Windows XP fulfils all my needs perfectly fine. I would like that Microsoft stopped changing the user interface and add bloat in favour of making some real changes to the core, performance, stability and other things that really matter instead of changing the GUI for the worse in my opinion. XP graphical user interface, for an OS is perfectly fine. Quicklaunch is the best and most functional feature MS ever devised... so you can start your programs with one click. ;) What else can one want from an OS? I want it to be transparent, stable, usable and fast as hell.

I for one think the most important feature will be one left out. Backwards compatibility for WinXP. Hopefully by then MS will have had the balls to resist pressure to keep supporting it until time ends. Before you go off and flame me, think on this, the biggest issues MS has always had concerning security can be attributed to backwards compatibility. The horse and buggy crowd resisted change and wanted nothing to do with automobiles but in the end, like everyone else, had to change. UPDATE: A better example of my point above is my Aunt and Uncle. Their old analog TV was working just fine for them, but the world moved to digital and in the end had to buy a new TV.
