Actually, that's the price with VAT, 158,82€ is the actual price and that would mean $222.

funny, if i translate 189 euro with the current rates, i end up with $ 264.18 ? but either way, if you want these cards.. just wait a month or 2, and price will go down bad, as ususal.. and if you wait a little longer i bet they will revamp it into a 4890 and the price will go down even further

Did they capitalize? No, because people were pissed at them for lying and keeping them waiting for an unwonted product that failed to deliver. Was it to expensive? Yes... since the via problem created for them a lot of dead chips per $5000 wafer and they had to compensate. Did AMD have the same problems? No... so a pricey GPU was not the ideal move. Also AMD wasn't the leader of the market, which usually gives a company some leverage as to how high the pricing can go. Now that TSMC has fixed the 40nm node, nvidia is coming out with fixed 104 and AMD with NI. On top of that AMD has also revised the internal workings of the GPU, delivering more performance per W than previously, for lower cost per die area. Is a higher price needed? No.

The selling price is not important... what's important is to learn the process ahead of the market so that when the market demands your product you have something that's worth it to offer. AMD made their 40nm homework early... double vias were needed to properly supply the transistors with power, that's 10% to 15% bigger die, so a loss, but that also means that the wafer has a small amount of non-working chips. Nvidia on the other hand did nothing... they hit the via problem and had to up the voltage and lower the core speed so they offered a 6-months-late and over-powered piece of trash. Howerever they forced old GPU's down partners throats and now the self-branded cards sh#it in stores.

You just failed the finance class... go to the corner and study some more! /being ironic They don't manage to capitalize because they have debts to pay off. Simple as that. And the idea that they don't spend on R&D is unfounded. They do spend and the results can be seen in Evergreen and NI when nvidia continues to fail miserably. On the CPU/APU side, they need OEM's which won't fear Intel's pressure to keep AMD below 20%. So it's not up to them. GF will do a good job sustaining AMD's chances of getting more chips out the door, but that's it.

wow... love you amd but seriously... they will continue to lose money if they cant capitalize while nvidia is so far behind... i fail to see how they expect to survive the next few years if they continue to capitalize so poorly. without this money they will continue to invest little little into R&D/new projects. the way things are going they wont be able to keep up when kepler and maxwell/new intel architectures come out. there's only so much quick fixes can do. bankruptcy in 3... 2... 1...
