Got my nVidia GPU replaced in my Dell 16 months ago (garbage chars/bad gpu memory). Replacement GPU (installed by Dell) now doing same thing. These cards are sub-par and not able to manage the heat. Vista/Win7 only making matters worse by running the GPU harder. Now I'm using a borrowed laptop (same make/model and GPU) but running without Aero and Hardware acceleration to keep the card cooler so I can get my work done, otherwise it would be just a matter of time before it blows up too.

I think I have a defective GPU on my HP laptop a few year ago when they just announce a gpu recall. Too bad there's no warranty left. It's amazing how laptop die just weeks after the warranty ended.

Awww, I'm pissed, my TX1000 model isn't on the list, but still has a dodgy nVidia chip. It has never been able to recognise the wireless network card, which is a listed symptom on the site, but still they don't have the specific model. Wankers.

Yes, $1200, I'm sorry. I was so mad when I typed that I messed up. I have contacted HP in the past, and they will fix it for about $400.00. It is out of warranty. Should I contact them again since this ruling and see what they say?

I had this problem with a Dell D630 and a Nvidia NVS 135m. Overheated on idle. The funny thing is, when the Dell guy came to replace the GPU...he replaced it with the same faulty GPU! Nvidia actually didn't have a hardware replacement fix, and now two years later my notebook continues to run hot on idle though there have been no overheatings so far (about 76*). Afterwards, Nvidia released a patch for the driver that didn't fix the solution back then. It actually made it worse. It would purposefully declocked the GPU when it reached a certain temp. It messed up playing games or using apps, so I had to sue the old one. Now that Nvidia owned up to this, will they replace it with the same faulty chip? Lucky HP owners...
