@Greg4422, you're not far from the truth. After seeing how my older GeForce 6600 GT dropped in performance after every driver update I started to give a shit about their "new & improved" drivers.

The drivers from both are good enough compared to old days. ATi drivers are OK for years and nV ones are OK since w7. What currently fails somewhat is the physics driver from nV and, of course, windows. Anyway, the performance will really depend on the specific game played and card used, but if you have a good card 1-5 FPSs won't matter. As for the 28nm, no, there's no waiting for it. SI will be on 28nm, and the current 6k series will be on 40. The improvement is the microcluster reconfiguration . Going from 5xN to 4xN will count with about 25% because of the current software (in)capabilitie s.

ATI and NVidia latest drivers are crap. It appears they're both so focused on 1-2 FPS perfromance on the newest cards, that anyone with previous generations cards are taking a performance hit...not increase... I've seen this on both ATI and NVidia cards. I've stop using the latest drivers for both of them and only use stock drivers from microsoft.

2001 called, they want their "bad ATi drivers" meme back. BTW, what about NVIDIA's drivers frying boards after effing up the fan control? Or the fact that NV's drivers accounted for a significant chunk of crash reports during Vista's first half year? People in glass houses, not throwing stones, etc, etc...

the whole series was originally intended for 32nm, but tsmc cancelled the 32nm process to move straight to 28nm later next calender year. as for the story, it's complete fud of the worst kind. also, the latest rumours suggest that amd is doing the sensible thing and keeping hd*8*0 for the high-end single chip cards, and naming barts 'hd 6770' and 'hd 6750'. as for nvidia competing, well, they're out of the race until they release a new architecture as, even with a 28nm die shrink, amd will have over a four times performance per mm2 advantage over fermi. which is insane.
