Fuad, more errors: SB is shipping in Q4. Otellini's Q1 comment was qualified with "heavy volumes". The parts are going ON SALE in early January. Intel says IB shipping in H2 '11. If that turns out to be Q4, then IB will launch in early Jan 2012, just like Westmere, just like SB, ... Kinda blows this whole "late" / "back on track" thesis.

almost hitting the brick wall for silicon, any lower than 10nm and the transistors will be unstable and keep failing, thus moving onto carbon which would be a much more superior material capable of supercomputer like performance

I skipped i7 too, mainly because I still run a single socket box and I didn't need the PCIe bandwidth of X58 (not that most people with them do) and Lynnfield came out so late. I think I'm definitely going to jump on Sandy Bridge. I'll do a cheap build around the early 4-core/8-thread parts and then a big box for the 8-core/16-thread processors that come in 2011. I'm just hoping that quad-channel single socket boards equal eight DIMM slots and not four.

I skip i7 generation CPU because I know Intel can do better. My Yorkfield is still awesome. However, 22nm Sandy Bridge sounded as tempting as ever. Need to see performance first.

So .... Intel is gearing up to release 22nm CPU's just after AMD finally moves to 32nm. Intel will be in an ideal position to set prices just high enough to reap huge margins, and just low enough to put pressure on AMD to reduce its own margins. Although AMD will continue to live, it will not prosper. But Intel doesn't want AMD to disappear, as it needs the competition to avoid anti-monopoly lawsuits.

Yeah, but I wouldn't dismiss AMD just yet. Bulldozer is coming, and it should be the first all-new architecture since the good old K8 - hopefully it will be just as successful. Also, AMD will maintain a lead in graphics for years to come... Still, it will be hard to keep up with 22nm despite all this...

thats some great news! tick tock still manages to work, and we will get on the other side this means that we will still lack competition...as first amd 32nm on new architecture will face 22nm processor..it will still be "sandy bridge" generation, but 32nm SB is already looking fast and low on power..so once again, no competition..

It's impressive how fast Intel advances with it's technology. While it's good for consumers in short term, it might be not so good in perspective of few years, if AMD won't get their act together with Fusion. Technological domination of Intel and lack of strong competition gonna cost us all a LOT. Just my two cents.
