iPhone 3G performance is much better with iOs 4.1 vs 4.0... snappier feel for common tasks and faster for opening some apps. There is still occasional lag, most noticeably 'hanging' for a second or so when starting to enter text. Happens much less often but it's still there. At least the phone feels usable now... but still not as good performance as on os 3.x os. I hope Apple will release further performance improvements. Slowness I can handle, but the random freezes are intolerable, even if they are less frequent now.

Considering iOS 4.0 is built to run on the iPhone 4 with 512MB of ram, I don't think it's surprising that it's a little sluggish on the iPhone 3G that has 128MB of ram. That's just the way things work. I've been checking out various high-end Android phones and I've yet to find one that is significantly better than my old iPhone 3G (not running iOS 4). I was really hoping to find one because I'm fed up with ATT. I guess I'll just wait for a CDMA iPhone. Apple really, really needs to do that. I'm sure it's coming, but they need it now. An iPhone 4 with Verizon's superior network would make the iPhone 4 even better than it is now. That is, it's the best phone one the market despite the overblown antenna angle.
