That cuts both ways. As you no doubt know if you have been buying AMD stuff since 1994, the Athlon XP, 64 and X2 lines of processors were much better than anything Intel had to offer to the desktop user back then, while ATI's success with the Radeon 9700 and it's succesors had faded and their cards were plagued with heat and power issues and still unable to outperform Nvidia's offerings. I remember those times, and that's why I've kept up with what AMD has done these last few years, even though right now I own a Core 2 Quad cpu: if AMD took the performance crown from Intel once, it could happen again.

Basically, ask around the net what VC people use and most probably you'd get, "got an EVGA gtx 460", or "sapphire 5870" I wonder where the all important ATI and NVIDIA brands went.. If you're a PC enthusiast you're probably aware years ago when AMD bought ATI so whats the difference now that the name ATI got killed? Sure ATI had an excellent reputation but to be fair, AMD owned ATI when the 57xx cards were released so why give ATI all the credit when AMD was really the ones who made the products.

Amongst enthusiasts ATI is a more known and trusted brand than AMD. The ATI brand has carried them when the processors were, and still to an extent, limping. If AMD processors can match or exceed Intel's then omittance of the ATI brand name would go down a lot smoother. They should do a survey on what buyers want out of a CPU - they may learn a lot. AMDs marketing strategies traditionally suck. ps. I've been buying AMD products since 1994.I am A fanboi but not a fan of this brand culling.

He is right in a sense, go poll a few members of your family and ask them if they know who ATi, nVidia, Intel and AMD are. Of course WE know who they are, or we wouldn't be reading Fudo's rants, but ask the peasants.

"We believe it could have been transformed into an entirely different brand, aimed mainly at the enthusiast market, but that’s a different story altogether." Then I think you're kind of missing the point. AMD wants people to see "AMD Llano" (or whatever the commercial name will be) and think "Oh yeah, AMD, those are the guys who also make the Radeon HD 6870, 6970, etc. Surely the GPU in this thing must be good!". And of course, people who didn't know what ATI was in the first place won't be affected at all.

are you people crazy. what AMD is saying is most people don't care whats under the hood.. meaning they don't care if its an ATI Radeon 5850 or 5830, they only see ATI Radeon. When people look at Intel inside they don't see Core i7 8xx or 9xx, they see Core i7. They are saying the BRAND NAME AMD and RADEON show the strongest reactions. so they combined the two. people will know it has an AMD processor and a Radeon graphics card. That's marketing level 000, you don't quality for 101. Enthusiasts will still know what an AMD Radeon 6870 is so that's also not an argument. Those of you saying Nvidia's and Intel's CONSTANT rebranding marketing is so good well I'm worried about you're logic. Maybe it's good to confuse consumers more, oh wait they don't care in the first place

The last thing a latest generation nVidia card needs is a heat source next to it. It appears it was designed as a multipurpose device: 1) produce heat, 2) draw many W and $, 3) draw graphics.

So... ATI is a great legendary brand name that should be kept because ATI makes crappy graphic cards that cannot hold a candle to Nvidia? Okay, I think I get it! Thank you!
