One other thing to balance things up.Adobe has acelerated certain zoom & pan functions using the GPU in photoshop CS4/5.No it does not use Cuda but openGL so all the latest and greatest cards of both persuasions can use it.Long live the GPU...It's the CPU that is going to become a thing of the past at this rate, not Nvidea or ATI.

I have just bought a Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB.I've had ATI cards before. The GTX is a great performer for the £170 I payed for it,and that's the key. It's not so much how it performs. It's how it performs relative to a price point.Great perfomance in those scores....but not if it ends up as another £300 card. !

Not a fanboy of either camp really, although if I were to lean one way or the other then yes I would lean towards Nvidia, especially after driver issues with my old haha HD2900 Pro drove me to purchase a 8800GTS(G92) which also gave a good performance boost. I will switch back and forth though if AMD/ATI offer something compelling enough. That said, I am also not angry, I was actually laughing as I wrote the comments.

Heh, sorry. My intent wasn't to troll or debunk the power and recent success of AMD's GPUs. Give me Ambient Occlusion and something akin to CUDA (they can likely do this by pushing OpenCL) and I'll GLADLY buy another ATI card. I've loved all the ones I've had in the past. I remember spending $550 on the 9800XT when it absolutely destroyed anything Nvidia had as well as providing superior texture quality among other things. My video card upgrade cycle has literally traded brands on every subsequent purchase. I want to see AMD step up to the plate and deliver these features so they're truly competitive on all fronts, gaming and professional. They sure as hell have the hardware based on this news clip and the dominance of the 5000 series.

While this is true of many games and several newer games support it directly in the game's options for both cards, a lot of the Source Engine 2 games such as TF2, HL2ep2, CS:source allow it to be enabled. Granted these are older games. If the game doesn't work with it, it'll say so in that game's profile within the Nvidia control panel. I also do a lot of work with programs utilizing CUDA acceleration for playback and video encoding processes. AMD would do well to invest a lot in perfecting their cards' OpenCL use as well as marketing it to companies like Adobe.

I'm pretty sure AO doesn't work for most games that don't support it even if turned on, you'd have to check individual game setting to see if there is an option for it still.

That is very good numbers. My Asus EAH 5870 gets 17.6 FPS on same settings with core at 950 and memory at 1250. The new card seems twice as fast as mine on Uniengine.

Call me a graphics whore, but my main reason for not jumping on the Radeon bandwagon has been solely because they don't offer driver forced Ambient Occlusion in older games. I still play a lot of older titles that look spectacular with AO's indirect soft shading...probably insignificant to many but I don't forsee myself buying an AMD gpu again until they add this feature to their CCC. I'll wait for that to happen or for Nvidia to catch up in the mid-upper range of performance cards.
