Single sided POVs are not to be take seriously... no one told the guy that 5870 can be OC'ed as well without being in danger of ending the world in a nuclear meltdown. Anyway, to add to the warranty argument, he should look at the BFG case. Nvidia is not to be trusted, not now at least, where as ATI's cards are rock solid. Didn't 4850 get the italian "rock solid award" for being the card with the least RMA's? Oh yes, it did! And I'm expecting Evergreen to be just as good.

You'd rather void your warranty and at the same time risk crippling the card with no chance of a refund just for a performance increase to keep up with a 5870? yeah OK you do that, any smart person wouldn't

I've had ATI cards for mmany years.Have now gone over the green side for my next card.A Gigabyte GTX460 1GB.Bought for £170 - When overclocking it from 715 Mhz to 900Mhz with a volt mod in Afterburner it will keep pace with a 5870.Now that's what I call a bargain. They may have dawdled and the 480/470/465 may have been silly cards but the 460 is a beast.God help ATI if any of their board partners decide to build a GTX 460x2 2GB card and overclock it.

Actually one of the coolest thing about the new 6000 series cards I didn't see mentioned anywhere is that they (well some anyway) will support Displayport 1.2. What does that mean? They'll actually have the interface bandwidth to handle 1920x1200x120Hz, 1920x1200x240Hz, and even 2560x1600x120Hz if someone actually makes one (come on Dell 3009 WFP).

Was checking out overclockers and I came a across a HD 5000 road map, if it's legit (doubtful) then the cards WILL be named 5890 and 5990, the refreshed GPUs (according to this road map) will have an extra 336 Million transistors and 320 more SPs, but it says the chip will support 384bit bus width but this is unlike ATI as they always like to keep their chips small and some of the information on the chart for current cards is inaccurate http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3886/bheg.jpg

because it is the most pragmatic speculation. The new gpu will still be on a 40nm node. For a "spectacular" improvement, one would reasonably expect an all new design on a smaller process.

That's exactly right. Over the past nine months, Catalyst drivers for Radeon HD 5000 products have produced gradual performance increases for single GPU cards, but we've hardly witnessed any advantages for Hemlock and 4-way CrossFire users. I have been running two Radeon HD 5970s in Quad-CrossFireX since December 2009 when I upgraded from two GeForce GTX 295s in Quad-SLI. To be completely honest, Nvidia's driver engineering team has my respect much more than ATI's, particularly because they are able to execute gradual dual-GPU performance updates much quicker with far fewer stability issues. As the enthusiast market gradually embraces the era of native 4-way SLI and CrossFire, more Nvidia and ATI customers are going to understand the significant impact that Catalyst and GeForce driver releases have on system performance. Nevertheless, if ATI wants to market the Hemlock successor (let's call it "HD 6970" for now) with enough performance advantage over the HD 5970 to yield high demand, it needs to be capable of delivering more efficient multi-GPU driver releases.

Have to agree, AMD has decided that they need the 28nm process to properly deliver the Northern Islands architecture and neither of the major chip manufacturers have their 28nm processes ready. So AMD does what a smart company does, take some the the next gen architecture, optimize some of the existing, combine them and give gamers and performance hounds what they need: Higher performance on a regular product schedule.
