Fudzilla is a democracy, although just barely. So why should you share my opinion? I don't like it, but you and millions of people do, and so does Fudo believe it or not. ;-) I just wouldn't buy a $500+ tablet, especially not one without a USB port and a bunch of other features that I need on a daily basis...

So on the basis of your original comment "I think Nick was a bit too harsh with the 'stupidity & marketing' remark" Then I think your "i still think the iPad is plain stupid" is a bit harsh, although I have to agree with the premise that it is not for you.

Well, I said I think it's stupid, but that doesn't mean everybody should share my opinion. I know what I need and the iPad just makes no sense, at least not with a $500 price tag. Sales figures clearly show that millions of people think otherwise and if they're happy with it, good for them. I just don't know what I do with it and I'd rather spend my money on real books or booze...

@nele How much time have you spent with an iPad.... Looking at photos in a family group. With an old person with arthritis and poor eye sight, who likes to read, or even to right. WIth a child in a car. Just walk into a room and put an iPad down. and watch what happens to it. Don't start off by assuming that its aimed at you, to replace your notebook, or smart phone, or even desktop. But if you assume that it will only be bought by people who don't already have either a smart phone and a notebook, then that still leaves 95% of the worlds population free. And the assumption would be wrong.

I think Nick was a bit too harsh with the 'stupidity & marketing' remark, although I have to agree with the premise that most Apple users are quite well educated about the stuff they are buying and quite a few have very good reasons for doing so. I know quite a few people who have built their own hackintosh rigs from off-the-shelf hardware, as Apple is still very popular in their line of work (design, video)... I'm not a fan of Apple desktops, at least not since they started using Intel chips - they just don't make sense anymore. In the old days an Apple desktop could wipe the floor with regular PCs, but now they've got the same or even slower hardware inside... In the phone market Microsoft failed miserably. Just look at their mobile OS and compare it to the iPhone OS or Android - it was a half-ass effort to say the least. Let's not even mention the Kin debacle...So in this case Apple users pay a premium, but they get the best OS, at least they used to until Android came along. As for notebooks, I have to hand it to Apple - they make sweet stuff. They're good looking and the quality of the materials and finish is second to none. If I wasn't too tied to Win in my daily routine and professional obligations, I might have bought one... Bottom line - Apple might be overpriced, but most Apple consumers know exactly what they're getting and they don't mind paying the premium, although i still think the iPad is plain stupid.

Many Mac users run old stuff either under WIndows using VMware Fusion, Parallels or Virtual box (which is Free). These are great for really important Windows stuff because you can regularly snapshot the disk in seconds, so you can always get back to that pre-virus state. Actually many Large companies ALWAYS run Windows under VMware in order to offer a more reliable service. Join the club. VMware fusion is a really good deal.

Well, there is some point in telling people about Macs before they use them I suppose. I run a game and I am frequently confronted by questions such as "I've been playing for years and I just bought a new computer, and the game won't work on it - it's a Mac. How can I get it to work?" If they knew that Macs pretty much couldn't play games at all before buying it, they probably wouldn't have bought it but by the time they find out it's too late. They have spent all that money on it by then and either just install Windows on it or live with their choice. If you spend thousands on something, you're pretty much forced into becoming a fanboy or getting rid of it.

...continued Already Apple is worth more than Microsoft. But now iPhones are moving into business. And even in Windows committed businesses people are now buying Mac notebooks to run Windows on, and then 6 months later its running MacOS with Windows under VMware. And all this time, the PC world just shrugs its collective shoulders and says "Fan Boys" and "stupidity"… But wait. In a world where Windows XP (AKA Windows 2000 point release with pretty skin) still has over 3 times the installed base of Vista and 7 combined, Microsoft finally releases its secret weapon… ….The Kin

...continued Your arguments only work on those who are as tied to the PC by history, as you are. But that is a small percentage of the population. 80% of the PC user base really don't care. But Windows phones suck. So they go into an Apple store to play with an iPhone, and buy one. And they're so pleased with the iPhone (look at any customer satisfaction survey), that next time they go back in the store, to play with an iPad, or to but a phone dock, they come out with a Mac, or an intention to buy a Mac next time they change a machine.
