That would be really interesting! Allowing the tablet to connect to a Windows computer using RDP would be really nice!

Yea it will be a Phone OS on the tablet, not a real OS. It will also use an ARM CPU instead of a x86 CPU. It really shouldn't even be called Windows Phone 7 because it's not Windows at all. All that is fine though because it's only a tablet, not a computer. Tablets honestly don't need a real OS or a real CPU. If you do happen to want to do heavy work on a tablet you can simply setup an interface to a desktop computer to offload heavy computing tasks.

its not what they "ought" to do its a no brainer u know itll be the phone OS just like apple did. The new Windows Phone 7 is good enough to do it with.

After all the bashing on how bad the Ipad is, now they`re really "thinking" of making a similar product. It just shows how strikingly successful the Ipad is. Ipad is a useful and efficient toy in it`s current form... I don`t know why you guys want a similar product with a x86 processor and OS.. it (definitely) won`t won`t work.

@guideX, and the crap that's in ipad is efficient how? Oh, in looking pretty... nice furniture, dude! What AMD will do with their Bobcat core is far from being inefficient, and what they are doing with Fusion will allow people to use hand-held devices in a way apple can only lie about right now. Also, keep in mind that a Windows system is modular, you can take out a lot and leave plenty of stuff that not even the crappy ipad's software has and still be more useful. I can clearly remember using nLite to create XP Lite disks that ran on 64MB of RAM and still able to run a decent set of apps. They probably want to cash in on the fully fledged OS before going into the niche market.

What I think they ought to do is modify their new Windows Phone Series 7 OS to work as a tablet OS the same way that OS4 and Android have. If they can do that and make it fully inter operative with Windows 7 through WiFi, they'll take the world by storm. However I agree with guideX half way. I don't think just porting Windows 7 to a tablet will solve the crisis as its just too slow, bulky and power hungry for a devise meant to compete with the iPad. On the other hand, Windows CE also seems like a poor choice here as well since it has a long and illustrious history of mediocre fail.

He is an idiot if he is planning on releasing a tablet with Windows 7 on it. I am not interested in 1 minute load up times nor do i need a thick-ass ugly tablet housing an inefficient x86 core. I think their new Windows CE that they are using for WinMo is the best option, should also accelerate app development so they can compete with Android... somehow.
