What makes you think so? I have 135€ Asus P55D EVO-motherboard. First had HD5770 crossfire and now I have GTX 460 1GB SLI. I also have Core i5 750 processor on that motherboard; 150€ when I bought it. Obviously I have overclocked it a lot. Yeah and it's still fast compared to single GPU solutions with similar price range.

I always find it funny when you people compare SLI setups against single card setups. Did it ever occur to you that those cards are fast only because they are run on X58 with the most expensive of all CPU's by Intel? So comparing them to the average Joe's cheapo build is kinda pointless, unless you actually have the money for that isomethingmeani ngless build and thus couldn't give crap about middle-ware GTX 260 when daddy's pockets could buy you 3 GTX 480 just like that.

Well what about two GTX 460 cards? I mean GTX 460 1GB SLI is already faster than single GTX 480. GTX 480 has 1536MB of usable vram since 460 1GB SLI has only 1024MB..maybe this is hindering GTX460 combination? Of course it might have problems with memorybandwidht since it's reference clocked on that part.

of course 2GB's is possible, why wouldn't it be? use 256MB modules instead of 128 :\

While 2GB memory will benefit at higher resolutions GTX 460 will not be powerful enough. If you're buying 27 inch monitor I'd so go with GTX 480 or HD 5970

To me it just seems like NV partners got nothing else to work with so they just keep on introducing improved versions of the current cards: a slight overclock here, additional memory there...

Additional memory also allows for better sustained performance at extreme resolutions with very large LCD monitors. If I were purchasing a 27 inch or larger monitor then I would prefer a 1GB or larger memory video card
