Key word "capable"... they haven't established nothing except that it can work undervolted at 1GHz or less. We know how undervolting goes. To have something established means to know all there is to know. I want IDLE power at its default clock and FULL LOAD power at the same clocks. Nothing short of that.

@anno, Sandy can be called Fusion because it adds a GPU and a CPU on the same die. That's what fusing two products is. However it CAN'T be called an APU since as you've said, the GPU won't feature a standard programmable interface like OpenCL. Regarding Bobcat, "1W capable" is what? The power usage? The power usage was never stated in any of the documents. Only the TDP, and that's not a straight translation of power usage. The TDP is 1 to 10W and the power usage might very well be under 1W in idle. There's nothing wrong with that. I clearly remember reading 780G NB drawing 0.9W in idle, so anything is possible.

Jurassic, just to be clear: Unless Sandy Bridge's GPU can run OpenCL (I'm not sure), it can't rightfully be called a fusion product. Fusion is about leveraging both the CPU and GPU for general compute work, not just sticking them both on a die and calling it a day. I agree that it took very long, but it might be due to the software development environment to - multithreaded stuff only just became common. I think it would have been too much to expect massively parallel GPU compute programs to be widely available in 2006 or 2007. And about Bobcat: AMD claimed that the individual CORES will be sub 1 W capable, not the entire product. This probably only occurs when idling, too. The TDP of Ontario is 5 - 20W.

AMD code-named Ontario features two x86 cores based on BOBCAT micro-architecture, integrated DirectX 11-class graphics core and DDR3 memory controller on a single-chip system-on-chip (SoC) device. AMD claims that Bobcat-based products are sub-1W capable. The SoC will be made using a 40nm fabrication process at TSMC. AMD Ontario is the key part of AMD Brazos platform for low-power devices.

You might want to pay less attention to what you "heard" and more to what AMD has already announced officially. Bergman showed a demonstration of a "low-power" Fusion chip running a 3D game, WITHOUT explicitly stating WHICH VERSION of Fusion was used in the demonstration. However, the prototype system used to run the demonstration was kept behind curtains and was not made visible to reporters. Fusion was originally announced back in 2006... man where did the time go? And when did Intel announce Sandy Bridge, and when is it due on shelves??? Oh right, that's not fair, cuz intel actually releases products people get excited about in a reasonable and timely manner.

My thoughts nearly exactly, Alexko... But one minor addition: AMD said Ontario will ship for revenue in Q4 this year, but, they may not be for actual sale until Q1 2011. So in that case H1 2011 launch would still be true.

In fact, Dirk said only that Llano would have "production shipments" in H1'11 (vs. the earlier "end product availability"), so the launch could, in theory, be in Q3! But yes, the constant errors regarding TSMC 40nm bulk Ontario vs GF 32nm SOI Llano are embarrassing.

Fuad continues to "hear" completely incorrect information. This reads like someone listened to AMD's Q2 financials and then butchered it of all facts. Ontario contains bobcat cores and is part of the brazos platform and will be made at TSMC at 40nm. It has been pulled forward with shipments starting in Q4 with products in Q1'11. Llano, with tweaked K10.5 cores will made on GF's 32nm which has been delayed. Due to those process problems, Llano has been delayed from a Q1'11 release to H1'11.
