Most people don't need $500+ video cards either but the buy them. Without an affordable 6 core part, Intel has basically handed that part of the market to AMD. Something they've never done. They have always had at least on part in each tier of the market. Sure they can get away with it. They have plenty of cash and legions of fanboys to buy their stuff at any cost. But again, why give AMD a whole market segment, even if they can afford to?

because they can get away with it and they know most people don't need 6 cores, and the ones that do are in business and don't care about whats realistically good to buy as long as its top of the line and intel. They just buy the 1000$ intel chip with no consideration to AMD's 6-core chip.

So the Core i7 970 Gulftown six-core is finally available on Newegg at the whopping price of $899. I paid exactly $999 for my launch-day Core i7 Extreme 980X Gulftown six-core, with an unlocked multiplier! Give me a break Intel distributors.

I'm still trying to figure out why Intel hasn't release a 6 core part in the price range of AMD's 6 core parts. I realize it's not really needed as the quad core's keep pace with AMD's 6 core's but in sales it's all about perception. I've spoken to a few people who are putting off upgrading until Intel has a realistically priced 6 core.
